President’s Letter
Sustainability in Conservation, Education, Organization and Community Service
The members of the Lullwater Garden Club have been influencing the community, supporting worthy causes, participating in civil projects from local as well as national levels, and touching the lives of many youth through various educational programs and sponsorships for the past eighty three years!
You are truly an amazing group of individuals who celebrate diverse interests, coming together to accomplish wonderful things. I am honored for the opportunity to serve as your garden club president and thank all you all for your involvement, your efforts and your achievements. These activities have allowed our garden club to be one that makes a difference.
In the next two years, I look forward to maintaining our momentum in the Conservation Garden. I plan to work towards a time when the conservation garden will be a self sustaining Piedmont Forest, requiring only maintenance. This can be accomplished through (1) continued work days for invasive eradication, allowing native plant species to thrive which will attract native pollinators and native animal species (2) continued maintenance of the formal grounds and perimeter, allowing the garden to be a good neighbor and safe space for our community and (3) actively protecting the health of Lullwater Creek through our stream clean ups and in our status as stakeholders in upcoming restoration of the Lullwater Creek Bridge at Ponce de Leon Ave.
In the next two years, I look forward to working with our Programs Committee in continuing the wonderful diverse education programs we have come to enjoy and appreciate. These enlighten and inspire us, celebrate our history, create enthusiasm to grow from within, and sustain our club. To ensure that I don’t miss any opportunities to hear your ideas, I will bring a suggestion basket to each meeting, so you may share them, sustaining the diverse interests of our club.
Also, I look forward to nurturing and expanding our community and youth outreach programs with hopes to assist, educate and engage them in issues of conservation, environment beautification, appreciation of flora, and to increase their awareness of local, as well as National Garden Clubs. Others can see what a wonderful difference garden clubs make and will be excited to be part of the programs, sustaining our national organization!
